White Wine

In general, white wine can be defined as an alcoholic beverage made from a fermentation process that uses green grapes and yeast. In the event planning industry, white wine can be integrated into your event in a wide variety of ways such as:

  • Cooking
  • Serving
  • Gift bags
  • Charity Auctions
  • Tastings
  • Branding

The first thing that comes to mind when white wine is mentioned is consumption. White wine is a staple at most bars and is typically served at events. White wine can be served by the bartender or a member of the wait staff. White wine has several different varieties which can be defined by their level of dryness, sweetness and fullness. The varieties are based on the type of grape used and include the following:

  • Chardonnay- a moderately dry white wine made from the chardonnay grape
  • Pinot Grigio- Italian white wine
  • Sauvignon Blanc- light to medium bodied white wine
  • Champagne- sparkling, dry white wine (popular for celebratory events)
  • Riesling- sweet full white wine

To accentuate its best qualities, white wine should be served chilled. It is best served cold so some people tend to associate white wine with the warmer months and red wine with the colder months. White wine can be a very refreshing beverage at an outdoor picnic or event. Generally speaking, white wine complements lighter dishes such as:

  • Salads
  • Vegetables and dips
  • Fish and seafood
  • Pesto
  • Cream Sauces, soups and dishes
  • Fruit
  • Pork
  • Chicken

Caterers can also use white wine as a cooking ingredient as the alcohol dissipates during the cooking process leaving only exquisite flavor. White wine can be given away in gift bags or even auctioned off at a charity event. Expensive champagne such as Dom Pérignon or Crystal would be a great auction item, especially if it is aged.
