Wedding Planner

A wedding planner is a specific type of event planner who only conceptualizes, plans and executes weddings. The wedding planner is employed by an event planning company and is then hired by a bride to aid in the execution of a wedding. The wedding planner coordinates:

  • The timing of the ceremony
  • Catering
  • Photography
  • Floral Design
  • Venue selection
  • Day of coordination
  • Seating arrangements
  • Gift bags/Registry
  • All aspects of décor
  • Type of Entertainment
  • Wedding Cake
  • Invitations and Save the Date cards

Wedding planning is similar to any type of event planning in the sense that first the planner should get a grasp of the client’s vision of their wedding. A wedding is such a personal thing so the listening skills of an event planner must be incredibly sharp. The wedding planner will meet with the client to decipher the basics of the wedding:

  • The wedding budget
  • The colors/theme of the wedding
  • What time the wedding will start
  • Roughly how many guests are expected (is it a big or small wedding)
  • Location (indoors or outdoors)
  • Any ethnic specifications (for example, is the guest having a traditional Jewish or Mexican wedding)

Once the wedding planner is aware of the client’s budget they can begin to formulate a proposal based on the client’s vision and colors. The wedding planner should involve the client in every aspect of the planning process because weddings are such a private event. The wedding planner should work extra hard to make sure that the client is happy with every single aspect of the wedding including the linens chosen for the tables. The wedding planner should also focus on the timing of the event because some venues charge double when you extend past your allotted event time. The wedding planner can also plan the engagement party, the bachelor/bachelorette parties, the rehearsal dinner and wedding shower. The wedding planner should be very familiar with all wedding industry trends including cake design and trash the dress photography sessions. They should be able to answer all questions industry related and provide a specialized wedding tailored specifically to that client’s personality and wishes.
