Urn - Urns

The word urn could be used one of two ways in the event planning industry. An urn could be a large metal or plastic container with a spigot used to serve coffee, tea, lemonade, iced tea and other drinks in large quantities. Typically, hot drinks such as coffee are placed into urns but any beverage could be served. Lemonade served in an old fashioned urn at an afternoon tea would be the perfect touch. Event production is so much about small details and using old things in new ways. The urn is definitely one of those items that could be used in a new exciting way.
In order to use an urn, the caterer should produce a large amount of the beverage to be served which would then be deposited into the urn for serving. The urn itself should be placed on a table complete with cups, glasses and any other needed items such as creamer or sugar. The guests would then simply be able to turn the spigot to serve themselves. You could also allow an attendant to serve the guests as the urn could possibly make a mess.
The use of the word urn in the event planning industry could also describe a container used to hold the remains of a body after it has been cremated.  The urn is usually picked out by the family of the deceased and returned once the cremation is complete. People typically keep urns on a shelf or a mantelpiece in their home. During the funeral the urn would be displayed in a central location for people to pay their respects. It should be treated with extreme caution and care because you do not want it to fall and spill its contents.
