Tongs - Serving Tongs
Tongs are a serving utensil used either in buffet or sit down style service. Tongs can be made of plastic, metal or wood and resemble a crab claw with a long handle. They are perfect when you want to discourage your guests from picking up food with their hands. Tongs are also more effective than serving utensils when serving food because they actually grasp the food items. Forcing guests to pick up food with their hands from a buffet line is very unsanitary and should be discouraged, therefore tongs should be provided. If your guests have to use a dinner fork to retrieve salad from a bowl it will hold up your buffet line, causing your guests to become agitated. Tongs are great for serving foods such as:
- Salads
- Fruit Salads
- Brownies
- Croissants
- Muffins
- Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Tea Sandwiches
- Chicken legs
- Beef tenderloin
- Rolls
For a buffet set up the tongs should be placed next to the serving dishes so that they are in plain view. Tongs can be placed on top of a plate so that after they’ve been used they won’t stain the tablecloth causing the table to appear messy.
