Swagging
Swagging is a word that describes the creative draping of decorative or colored fabrics for decoration. Swagging is typically used in conjunction with piping or tenting because it creates the decorative feel that completes the look. The fabric used for swagging are usually hung from a tent or on a metal frame to help conceal the outline and framing of a tent or canopy. Swagging can be done in a number of ways, as there is no set requirement for how it should look. Swagging can be used to decorate:
The fabric used for swagging can be your typical linen and silk or a sort of taffeta material depending on the needs of your event. Swagging can even be done with a spandex, slinky type fabric to create a fun environment. A more opaque material could create a more romantic atmosphere. Swagging is essential when creating a venue from the ground up through the use of tents or canopies because it tends to function as the walls. Swagging can turn an ordinary white tent into a paradise simply through the decorative draping of the fabric. The swagging technique allows the event planner to create a tent within a tent because it is supposed to practically conceal the fact that the event is taking place within a tent.
For an Arabian themed event, orange-reddish fabrics could be draped low to create an ambience of mystery. For a circus themed event, an event planner should be able to find a red and white striped fabric to hang on the inside of the tent. The great thing about swagging and its place in the tenting world is that event planners can create an entire world around their guests. Event planners could even drape black or dark blue fabric on the inside of a tent and then work with the lighting designer to create a star filled night. Swagging has an infinite amount of possibilities which is directly related to the imagination of the event planner.
