Napkin - Napkins
A napkin is a paper or cloth item typically used to wipe one’s mouth while eating. Napkins can also be used to clean up spills and to shield one’s clothes from food residue. Cloth napkins are obviously more formal because they are considered linen, while paper napkins are completely disposable and inexpensive especially when bought in bulk. At a formal event, cloth napkins can be formed in different shapes either on the plate or beside it. Cloth napkins can be shaped into fans, animals or holders for the silverware.
When a person begins their dining experience they usually place the napkin on their lap to prevent getting food on their clothes. The cloth napkin is best for an event depending on the formality of the occasion. The cloth napkin can be obtained in any color to match the décor of the event and is usually considered “linen” in the rental process. Typically, cloth napkins are more likely to be used when each guest has their own seat and place setting at a table. If food is being served buffet style then cloth napkins can be awaiting guests when they sit down to eat. If you are hosting a cocktail party or another event where the menu selection is minimal cloth napkins might not be necessary.
Paper napkins on the other hand are perfect for casual outdoor events such as picnics or children’s birthday parties. Paper napkins can be bought in bulk very inexpensively and if you are having a barbeque or any other equally messy event paper napkins are great to have.
Cloth napkins on the other hand shouldn’t be thrown away and have to be folded at the beginning of an event and collected at the end. Paper napkins are usually sold already folded so they just have to be set out on a table or placed at each individual place setting. Paper napkins are advantageous in terms of cleanup because they can be deposited into any trashcan or bag either by the event planner or the guests themselves. Paper napkins are also very absorbent and are good to have around in case of a spill or leakage. Cloth napkins are not incredibly absorbent but look elegant especially at a well dressed table with a full place setting.
