Microphone - Microphones

A microphone is a device used to amplify a person’s speaking voice in order to make it audible in a large space or to a large audience. The person speaking would speak directly into the microphone in order to be heard. Microphones are incredibly common at events and you almost have to have one if your event is being held anywhere else besides your dining room. A microphone is set up by an audio technician who plugs it into speakers that then amplify your voice. Microphones are used by musicians, the master of ceremonies, other speakers and any one else who needs to be heard at an event. There can be multiple microphones at an event so that each speaker doesn’t have to share the same one.

A microphone can be attached to one shirt, which is called a lavalier. The lavalier is especially effective if the speaker will be moving around a lot. Microphones require cords so your speakers need to be aware of this so that they won’t trip on the cords. This could be dangerous not to mention very embarrassing. The microphone could also be attached to stand so that the speaker does not have to hold anything in their hand. This technique is more commonly used at awards shows because taking the microphone on and off of the stand is distracting and wastes time. The microphone also can be attached to the podium (if there is one) for easy accessibility. As in every minor detail of the event planning industry, it is up to the event planner to decide what would be best. They should get all of the pertinent information such as:

    • How many speaker there will be
    • How long they have to speak
    • How long the entire program is
