Martini Glass - Martini Shaker
Martini glasses are drinking glasses made of plastic or glass used to consume the alcoholic drink called a martini. A martini is a cocktail made with either vodka or gin, dry vermouth, ice and maybe some type of fruit flavored liqueur. The glass itself has a stem that can be shaped straight or into a curve or design for decoration. The mouth of the glass is an open “V” or cone shape making the lip of the glass very wide. The bowl itself would then get gradually smaller as it approaches the apex of the “V”. Martini glasses are fashionable primarily since Martinis themselves have become very popular. Guests can choose to hold the stem to control the temperature of the Martini or the bowl. The shape of the bowl makes it easy to spill the contents of a martini glass because the wide lip causes the contents to sway back and forth often spilling over the sides when walking. Guests should be careful during a cocktail party not to spill their drink on themselves or others. Types of Martinis that can be consumed out of a Martini glass are:
A martini shaker is a tall container made of stainless steel or glass with a detachable top and strainer used to mix ice into martinis. The bartender is the only person who would use a martini shaker as it is not used for drinking. The bartender would pour all of the contents of the martini into the shaker, put the top on and shake the vessel back and forth. Once the shaking has been completed, the martini should be fully mixed and ready to pour into the martini glass and served to the guest. The bartender might even use a strainer over the shaker to prevent large pieces of ice from falling into the martini itself.
