Table Riser – Food Riser
As related to the catering and event planning industry, a riser is a plastic, glass or iron made support used underneath a buffet plate or dish to raise it to eye level. In a buffet line, you want to make sure that the food looks as appetizing is possible and that it can be clearly seen and obtained. Risers help to elevate the dish making service easier. The risers can also be used on a dining table to protect the table from a hot dish. Risers would also be necessary when you have decorated the food table and want to make sure that the food is elevated away from that. You don’t want flower petals, glitter or other décor items falling into the food. The risers would prevent this from happening.
A riser can also be referred to as a “drum riser” which elevates the drum set while on a stage. The drum riser is a metal platform complete with wheels that the entire drum set sits on while the person is performing. The drum riser basically elevates the drummer and his or her entire drum set. The wheels can be locked into place so that the riser does not move during a performance. The riser itself is actually lined with some sort of carpet which prevents the drum set from sliding or causing additional vibrations. The purpose of the drum riser is to isolate the drum from the stage to prevent any additional vibrations and to allow the crowd a better view of the drums.
