Food Lamp

A food lamp is the lighted lamp placed at a buffet line or in an action station to keep the food warm and attract guests to the food. The food lamp not only keeps the food warm but allows guests to view the food they are being served. If you are serving area in a dimly lit venue, you need to make sure that the guests can see the food they are being served. It can be a red flag to the guests if the food isn’t well lit. If you are proud of the buffet setup and the food itself then you should make sure that the area was well lit.
The food lamp on a buffet setup could be attached to a glass partition and hung in such a way to keep the food warm. The light energy is what generates the small amount of heat. In a buffet setup, the servers would stand on the opposite side of the partition from the guests to serve the food.

The food lamps in an action station work the same way. Food lamps are usually orange or red in color and cast a similar hue upon the food. Food lamps attract people to the food and can be different colors especially if you have a bunch of different international stations- different colors could represent different foods and cultures. Food lamps generate heat just like any other heating source- the lamp isn’t hot enough to cook food but it is hot enough to keep cooked food warm.
