Event Décor

The chosen décor used to adorn a venue for a particular event is an integral part of event planning. Décor is another word for decorations and includes all or part of the following:

  • Flowers
  • Fabrics
  • Backdrops
  • Special glassware/ china
  • Chair covers
  • Tablecloths
  • Centerpieces
  • Balloons
  • Caricatures
  • Live Animals

Usually before an event is actually booked with a company, the Event Planner has determined the client’s vision and created a proposal that accurately displays their understanding. The Event Planner is then usually hired because the client likes what the planner has proposed to do with their vision. The word “vision” describes the way the client has pictured the event in their mind. If the proposal does not match or exceed their expectations then they are dissatisfied. Once the event has been booked, it is the event planner’s responsibility to create the client’s vision by their use of décor. The décor is the way the venue looks after being set up for the event. It involves a color scheme which then impacts all other aspects of the décor including:

  • Tablecloths
  • chair covers
  • sub floors (if any)
  • floral arrangements
  • the centerpieces
  • lighting
  • backdrops

For example, a Christmas party’s décor would probably center around colors such as red, green, silver or gold. At a luau colors such as blue, purple and green would be used in the decor to convey an ocean ambience. The décor is central to event planning because without it every party would look the same. The décor is the difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary. The décor can transform a parking lot into the Secret Garden and a bookstore into a Haunted Castle- all it takes is some creativity and talent. The décor is what makes an event astonishing as it is the first thing one would notice. At a tea party themed baby shower, one would expect to see pastel colors and tea cups as part of the décor. Décor is what differentiates one event from another and can be used to create different moods even if the theme is similar. The décor possibilities that could be used at an event are endless and almost anything can be used to convey a client’s vision. The décor is simply the ambience created in the venue through the use of color, style, theme and creativity.
