Event Planning Guide - Party Themes
Deciding on a theme for your event is just as important as choosing the menu and entertainment. When deciding on a theme, picture the kind of mood or atmosphere you want to create. Do you wish to create a celebratory mood or a more serious one? Would you like to portray a whimsical atmosphere or a more elegant one? Deciding what kind of ambiance you are after usually makes deciding on a theme easier.
Not all events will (or should) have a specific theme, but the elements making up the event should still convey a common purpose, and should not stand in stark contrast with one another. For some events, simple flower arrangements, a well cooked and served meal and some nice bottles of wine are all that is needed, but for other events (especially if your budget has some wiggle room) a well-produced and executed theme can make the difference between a mediocre event and one that your guests will not soon forget (and can actually make programming the rest of the event easier).
After you have decided what kind of atmosphere you are aiming for, consider using one of the following types of themes (or conjure up one yourself!):
Make sure to carry out your theme in every aspect of the event, from invitations to decorations, food, gifts given at the event, entertainment, and even thank you notes.
