Sit Down

Sit Down The sit down is a food service option offered by a caterer in which a wait staff serves the catered food to each individual guest making it a formal meal. A sit down can refer to a breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner and will often elevate the status of the event. A sit down dining event does not have to be catered by a company. Any dining situation in which the meal is served to each individual person is considered to be a sit down. The sit down requires a higher degree of service, so it does cost more than the buffet option. The wait staff serves each guest individually and clears the table after each course. The sit down dining option is the exact opposite of the buffet option and is usually more expensive because of the amount of labor it takes to serve a specific amount of people. Obviously, your cost will increase depending on the number of people that need to be served and the selection of food that is being served. Sit down dining is formal and classy and can be nice for any important event such as a wedding. Sit down dining allows your guests to be uninterrupted during their meal by having to go back and forth to the buffet line. It also saves them from waiting in a line to receive their plate of food. The sit down option requires even more extensive menu planning because you need to figure out how to defray the costs. If you are serving each person filet mignon and lobster tails then your cost will be exorbitant but if you serve fish and chicken then the cost might balance out with the number of people your wait staff has to service. Sit down dining has its disadvantages as well some of which include:

  • Inability to cater to each guest’s tastes
  • Inconvenience to guests (guests will have to wait in long lines)
  • Higher cost of food
  • Sit down dinners are longer

The same menu is selected for each guest so they are required to eat what is served or nothing at all. Sometimes, guests will have the option of one of two meal options such as a fish and a chicken so they can have more of a choice.
