Glossary of Event Planning Terms - P - Q
PA System A technical communication system used to broadcast audio messages. The PA system can be heard throughout the wired venue.
Pastry Cart A shelved rollable cart used to place platters of desserts for viewing and serving.
Picnic/Barbeque A casual outdoor midday lunch associated with hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad and other traditional foods. Picnic and Barbeques are associated with the Fourth of July and other summer time parties. It is a party perfect for both kids and adults alike and offers opportunities for games and prizes. They can also be decorated in themes, such as Western, Luau, Carnival or Beach.
Pie A pastry lined baked food or dessert with a fruit, meat or pudding filling and topped with a pastry crust. Ex. Mince Pie, Apple Pie, Chicken Pot Pie and Key Lime Pie. The dessert pies are often served with ice cream, whipped cream or another topping.
Pin Spot spot lights directed at something specific. Pin Spots could be used to light the food areas, or over tables for additional lighting. Can also come in different colors.
Pinot Grigio An Italian white wine
Pinot Noir A red wine made from the vinifera grape
Pipe and Drape Metal framing often used with colored fabric which is draped over the framing to create a separation, curtain or subwall at an event.
Place Setting A set of eating utenstils that can range from a formal to very casual setup. Formal meaning china and 6 course meal utensils, casual meaning paper plates and plastic utensils. A place setting at an event would fit the theme and variety of a menu.
Platters A large plate designed to hold a large amount of food for serving
Podium The wooden, glass or logo embossed stand where the speaker is situated behind. The podium often holds any of the speaker's notes.
Poker Table A table of varying size and decoration used to play poker on. The table is typically decorated with poker embelmes and looks very classy in its suited theme venue. Seats a varying amount of people.
Proposal A written document given to the client from an Event Planner that outlines all ideas, options and prices for all aspects of an Event. It includes photos, menu options, venue options, venue layout and decoration, flower design, etc... The proposal gives the client the chance to determine whether or not they will sign a contract based on their excitement about the ideas in the proposal. 
Public Address A formal speech given by a speaker directed at a general audience.
Punch Bowl A large bowl used to serve punch out of. Guests can either help themselves with the ladle or be served by an attendant. The bowl is usually uncovered so that it can be easily and quickly refilled when its contents are low.
Punch Cups Cups 9plastic or glass) used to drink punch out of. Punch is usually a non alcoholic drink ( can be mixed with alcohol) made up of a variety ingredients such as soda, fruit juice, ice cream/sherbet and ice.
Punch Ladle Aa long handled spoon used to stir and serve punch from the bowl into a cup. The spoon can be made of metal, glass, plastic or wood and keeps the punch uncontaminated. Because the punch bowl is usually deep the ladle is perfect for mixing ingredients that have settled to the bottom.
