Disc Jockey – DJA disc jockey or DJ is the individual who is responsible for the music and audio at an event. A disc jockey could be used at any event in which a speaker or some sort of entertainment is needed. A DJ is most typically hired to play and monitor the musical selection or the approved playlist for an event. They control the musical genre, the sound level and the progression of the playlist itself. The DJ’s job is to keep guests dancing and have a good time. The DJ might also be required to interact with the crowd as in the case of a wedding where the DJ could introduce the wedding party as they enter. If an event is being held at a nightclub, there is usually a DJ booth where the DJ would reside for the remainder of the evening. In this case, the DJ would still be responsible for the playing and monitoring of the music but would not necessarily interact with the crowd. Basically, a DJ will do whatever the event planner has contracted him or her to do. The DJ has to pay close attention to his job because he is required to keep the music playing at all times. In some instances, the DJ will not provide the music and it is the event planner’s job to make sure the DJ has an accurate timeline of the event. If the DJ is not in a separate booth then the equipment could be set up on a banquet table close to the dance floor. The DJ should be able to see the crowd’s reaction to the music he is playing and determine the sequence of the playlist. Often times, the event planner along with the host will provide a list of songs to be played at an event. This is done to maintain control over the musical selection. Disc jockeys consider their art to be very creative which could conflict with the needs of the event. People’s definitions of the same word often conflict and in order to prevent that confusion, the event planner should provide a playlist. Very rarely will the DJ have complete control over the musical selection. The event planner will usually narrow the selection by asking for a certain genre or style of music.
