Glossary of Event Planning Terms - C
Cabernet Sauvignon a dry red wine made from the cabernet grape
Cake Knife A blunt end knife with a wide blade used to cut through layers of cake and then balance the cut slice on the blade to serve it on a plate.
Cake Stand A flat surface dish with a supporting stem where a cake is placed for viewing, cutting, storing and serving. The stand usually comes with a dome shaped top that can be placed on top of the cake when it is not being served.
Candelabra A decorative multiple candle holder. Candelabras come in a variety of styles and sizes and are very commonly used inside of churches or any event that requires candle light. 
Canopy a cloth, tarp or plastic covering used as a roof to shelter an area, with or without real walls, from the elements. Fabric and be draped inside the canopy for design.
Captain The main contact person on the day of event who oversees all of the day's operations. 
Card Table A foldable table usually made of metal with a cushioned top. Used for seating at an informal event, used to actually play card games on.
Carnival An outdoor fair associated with rides, games, face painting and prizes. This type of event is perfect for corporate parties and teambuilding.
Carpet Runners decorative rugs placed on top of a carpet to add decoration. 
Carving Station An area where the chef or cook freshly cuts and slices different types or one type of meat to serve to guests
Cash Bar A bar in which guests must pay for their alcoholic drinks
Caterer The person, persons or company who prepares a menu, offers tastings for the client and finally cooks and serves food either before the event or at the event. Caterers offer many different types of cuisines and options of service, such as sit downs or buffets.
Catering A full food selection and service meant to accommodate people at an event.
Centerpieces Flower arrangements usually in a vase or an agreed upon container placed in the center of tables for decoration. Flower arrangements can be placed anywhere in a room to accuentuate colors and other decorations. Flower arrangements are prepared by a florists and can contain ribbon or other additional materials to heighten the affect.
Chaffing Dish A metal container where food is placed while being served to preserve the heat of the contents. Chaffing dishes are usually used in buffet lines.
Chair Cover A patterned or colorful fabric put over a chair for decoration. Chair covers are used to disguise chairs so that they all look the same and add to the décor.
Chair Tie A piece of fabric used around a chair for decoration
Champagne sparkling, white, dry wine named from the region in France in which it originated
Champagne Bucket A wine chiller or Champagne bucket is a metal, glass or plastic bucket filled with ice used to place a wine bottle to keep it cold after it has been opened.
Champagne Fountain A device used to dispense any beverage to guests. The beverage is put into the device and when turned on it  showers the beverage in the same manner as a fountain dispenses water.
Champagne Glass A glass used to drink champagne from in order to preserve the bubbles
Chandeliers classy expensive light fixtures usually made of crystal or glass that are hung from a ceiling.
Chardonnay a dry white wine made from the Chardonnay grape
Charger A plate that separates the eating plate from the table and is used for decoration. The charger is also technically used to protect a table from a hot plate. 
Charity An event where guests usually pay to attend meant to raise money for a cause
Chef The cook and preparer of the menu. Usually oversees all other cooks and can create original recipes.
Chiavari Chairs Expensive, decorative commercial resin,wood or metal stackable ballroom chairs that come in all colors. They come with optional padded or cloth seats and can hold a person up to 500 pounds. 
China Formal porcelain eating ware
Chuppah A Hebrew word that describes a canopy traditionally used in Jewish weddings used to symbolize the home in which the couple will make together. It consists of a cloth or fabric supported over four poles which can be carried to the wedding ceremony.
Cobbler A deep dish fruit pie concealed by a pastry dough top. Common cobblers are apple, peach etc… but can combine different types of fruit to add in the flavor. Cobblers  served with ice cream or an ice cream substitute make for a delicious dish.
Cocktail
A usually fruity, colorful drink mixed with alcohol. The fruity mix is used to create a drink in which the alcohol taste is disguised. Drinks can be served over ice or blended with ice and many of them have very creative or suggestive names. Ex. Sex on the Beach
Cocktail Attire Clothing attire at an event where males are required to be in a suit and females in a dress or pants suit.
Cocktail Napkin A small typically paper napkin used for eating appetizers or holding cocktail drinks. Napkins can be embroidered, colored or printed with names or slogans pertaining to the event. Ex. At a wedding cocktail napkins could have the bride and groom's names on them.
Cocktail Straw A small straw used to drink or stir a cocktail or beverage.
Coffee Station Where a full option of coffee, sugar and creamers can be found at an event.
Color Wash  colored light used to create ambiance.
Continental Breakfast A simple catered breakfast usually consisting of pastries, coffee, tea and fruit. This option is perfect for early morning business meetings.
Contract A legal document between said party and the event planning company hiring them to coordinate an event. This document is usually accompanied by a money deposit and highlights very specifically the agreements of both parties.
Corporate Events Any event for strictly for business or for pleasure such as a holiday party, picnic or dinner held by a corporation for their employees. The corporation itself holds the contract with the event planning company. 
Creamer A flavored dairy or soy product used in coffee or tea for flavoring. Ex. Hazelnut, Vanilla, etc.
Crepe A french pastry that looks like an omelete filled with either sweet or savory fillings. Crepes can be eaten for breakfast with cinnamon and sugar filled with fruit or for dinner filled with spinach and mushrooms. Crepes are very diverse
Cuisine Cuisine refers to a specific set of cooking and preparation styles and practices often associated with a specific culture.
