Bartender – Bartenders

A bartender is an individual (male or female) over the age of eighteen or twenty one in some US states, who is hired and licensed to serve and mix alcohol and non alcoholic drinks at liquor licensed events or venues. A bartender is required to be familiar with different types and brands of liquor, wine and beer in order to effectively serve their customers. Bartenders also need to know how to mix different cocktails on a whim so that guests can obtain their favorite drinks.Bartenders are employed by staffing companies or event planners at any space or event that serves alcohol. More than likely, bartenders are required to wear a certain uniform and are required to card customers who appear to be under the legal drinking age of twenty-one. Some events and establishments require that almost everyone be carded because a venue can lose their liquor license if found serving alcohol to minors whether they were aware of it or not. The bartender’s uniform can greatly vary and as long as he or she is comfortable in the attire then it is permitted. A bartender’s uniform at an event will usually coordinate with the décor of the venue and can relate to its theme. Adult holiday parties might opt for a Santa Claus or even a sexy Holiday costume to bring their vision to life. Normally, bartenders are not required to socialize with guests but at events, it is always helpful. The bartenders are servers just like the culinary team and are present to add to the atmosphere of the event. A cheerful, helpful attitude is always appreciated.Bartender should also monitor the alcohol consumption of the guests and refuse to serve anyone additional drinks if they are obviously inebriated and out of control. They should monitor these individuals and even alert security to call a cab if they feel the guest might try to drive themselves home. It is not the bartender’s job to prohibit people from drinking alcoholic drinks or even to tell them how much they should have but it is necessary for them to look out for the safety of the guests at the event.
