Glossary of Event Planning Terms - G
| Gazebo | A slightly elevated outdoor shelter that can come with or without seating used for a variety of events. Gazebos are usually made of wood and are open so they are best equipped for the warmer months. When found in parks, they are usually quite large and used for picnics or other gatherings. Gazebos found in home or other private spaces are smaller and can be decorated in any manner. Another common usage is for weddings, where the wedding party or just the bride and groom stand to say their vows. |
| Generator | A supply of energy that converts one type of energy to another. Generators are often a mandatory component of an outdoor event where outlets are unavailable or at an event where a lot of electricity is being used. Generators prevent blackouts from the overuse of a power. |
| Gift Bags | Bags, satchels or any agreed upon container filled with gifts from the host given out to guests as party favors. Gift bags can be very extravagant with expensive gifts or more of a token gesture. |
| Goblet | A drinking glass with a stem. |
| Gobo | Lighting projected onto a stencil to create a logo or design on a wall or surface. Ex., companies can request that their logo or company name be embossed on the wall. |
| Grass Matting | A durable subfloor that can be placed on any surface to resemble grass. The subfloor is usually made of a nonslip backing and velon or plastic green material. This is often used on film/tv sets in neighborhoods where grass is required. |
| Greenwood Chairs | Rustic, one of a kind chairs made from natural unrefined wood. |
| Greeter | A person from the event staff or hosting team who welcomes guests to the event and guides them in the right direction. |
| Guest List | The authority document on the confirmation status of invited guests. This list is given to the bouncers, registration staff and event planners to control admittance. |
