The Ahmanson Theater is located within the Music Center of Downtown Los Angeles. In
1993 it went under a multi-million renovation to improve its acoustics and sight lines. The
theater seats 1,600 to 2,000 people.

The Annenberg Theater in Palm Springs Art Museum seats 433 with reception space for
its members. The theater features artists from dance, music and theater and includes a
lecture and film series
CALIFORNIA CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Overview:
The California Center for the Arts is located on a 12-acre campus in downtown
Escondido. Venues include a 1,523-seat concert hall, a 406-seat Center Theater, a visual
arts museum and a 9,000 sq. ft. conference center that includes five ballrooms and other
meeting spaces.
CASA DEL PRADO

Overview:
Balboa
Casa Del Prado is located in San Diego’s Balboa Park near and is comprised of two
outdoor venues. The enclosed courtyard features a wishing well and holds 150 for seated
events and 200 for receptions. The Casa Del Prado Theatre features a historic fig tree
and holds 320 for seated events and 400 for receptions.
COORS AMPHITHEATER

Overview:
The Coors Amphitheater is located by San Diego and specifically designed for music.
The large theater seats 9,442 and the manicured lawn can seat an additional 10,000.
Picnics can also be held on the lawn.
COPLEY SYMPHONY HALL

Overview:
The Copley Symphony Hall opened in 1929 as the Fox Theatre in San Diego. The décor
of the hall features French Renaissance accents to its walls and ceilings. Seating is
spacious and comfortable. The private room holds 70 for receptions and has access to
the bar and street. For seated events the lobby can hold as many as 270.
CURTIS THEATRE

Overview:
The Curtis Theatre features a 1,300 sq. ft. stage and seats 199. It showcases talent from
music, drama, comedy and even produces its own plays and touring productions. The
stage is 1,300 sq. ft. and features a state-of-the-art lighting and audio system. The lobby
can hold small receptions.
DISCOVERY SCIENCE CENTER

Overview:
The Discovery Science Center is a creative, interactive experience for birthdays or
corporate events. The theater seats 125 and offers audiovisual equipment. For small
receptions, there is outdoor space available for up to 70 people.
DOROTHY CHANDLER PAVILION

Overview:
The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is home to the L.A. Philharmonic, the L.A. Opera and the
Master Choral. The theater was also host to the Academy Awards in the past. It is one of
the oldest and largest theaters in Los Angeles’ Music Center Downtown. It features a
large stage and seats 3,189.
EBELL OF LOS ANGELES

Overview:
This 75,000 sq. ft women’s club is one of the oldest and largest in the country. The architecture
of this facility is inspired by the Italian Renaissance. The garden, which holds 400 for receptions,
features a fountain, loggia, and patios. It also features three ballrooms, a 200-seat auditorium,
and a theater. The lounge, art salon, and dining room on the first floor hold a total of 680.
EDGEMAR CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Overview:
The Edgemar Center for the Arts is a 75,000 sq. ft. nonprofit art center designed by
Frank Gehry. It hosts theater events, art shows, an acting studio and performing arts
programs. Venues include two theaters that seat 65 and 99 and an outdoor courtyard for
receptions.
EGYPTIAN THEATRE

Overview:
The Egyptian Theater opened in 1922 and was operated by Sid Grauman of Mann’s
Chinese Theater. The theater seats 618 and features projection and audio equipment.
The facility also includes a 6,700 sq. ft. courtyard and shopping in the adjacent building.
EL CAPITAN THEATRE

Overview:
This architectural gem opened in 1926 and features a cast-concrete Spanish Colonial
façade on the outside and East Indian décor on the inside. In 1989, the Walt Disney
Company and Pacific Theaters restored the building and now utilizes it for concerts,
screenings, stage shows and television broadcasts. The space seats 1,000 and includes
several lobbies for receptions and events.
FORD AMPHITHEATER

Overview:
This outdoor theater is located in the Hollywood Hills overlooking cypress trees and
chaparral. It seats 1,241 with no seat more than 96 feet from the stage. The venue holds
summer events for music, dance, film and theater events.
GEFFEN PLAYHOUSE

Overview:
UCLA’s Geffen Playhouse was reopened in 2005 after a $17 million renovation.
Upgrades and changes included better sight lines, elevated seating, more comfortable
seats, an extended mezzanine and two new boxes. The original theater seats 522. The
smaller theater added during the renovation seats 117.
HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM

Overview:
In 1940, the Hollywood Palladium opened to Frank Sinatra and the Tommy Dorsey
Orchestra. The 40,700 sq. ft. facility includes computerized bar stations and a modern
sound system. The floor can be converted for seated events with each seat having a
view of the stage. For receptions the floor can hold 3,500 people. Notable past
performers include the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix.

JOAN AND JACOB IRVIN THEATER

Overview:
This theater is located in the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Audiovisual
capabilities include advanced film, audio and lighting equipment, VHS, DVD, and
Laserdisc playback, Dolby surround sound, a 16 mm projector and two 35 mm
projectors. The theater can be used in conjunction with the museum and the various
reception areas.
KODAK THEATRE

Overview:
The Kodak Theatre opened in 2001 at the Hollywood & Highland complex and has
recently been host to the Academy Awards. The 3,400 sq. ft. facility features a five-level
lobby that holds 400 for receptions. The theater can be configured for 1,200, 2,700, for
3,400 seats. The stage can even be converted for seated events holding 1,600. Catering
is exclusively done by Wolfgang Puck.
L.A. GAY & LESBIAN CENTER’S VILLAGE AT ED GOULD PLAZA

Overview:
This center offers two theaters in it complex, the Renberg Theater and the
Davidson/Valenti Theater. The Renberg offers 144 fixed seats with the option of adding
88 seats. It features full theatrical lighting and Dolby Digital surround sound. The
Davidson/Valenti offers 50 seats and a movable stage.
McCALLUM THEATRE

Overview:
This Palm Desert performing arts center opened in 1988 and has been hosting big name
performers ever since. Notable artists include Sheryl Crow, Tony Bennett, David Sedaris,
the New York City Opera Company and the St. Petersburg State Ice Ballet. The tri-level
theater seats a total of 1,127.
ORPHEUM THEATRE

Overview:
This downtown L.A. landmark theater was built in 1926. In 2001, the building was restored
to its original art deco glory with its silk wall coverings, thick velvet curtains and elaborate
chandeliers. Event spaces include the lobby that holds 300 and the lounge that holds 175.
The entire theater seats more than 2,000 people.

This Art Deco masterpiece opened in 1930 and is now exclusively affiliated with the
theater subscription organization Broadway/L.A. The theater was once home to the
Academy Awards, The Lion King and Bruce Springsteen. In its entirety, the theater holds
2,703 seats.
SAN DIEGO CIVIC THEATRE

Overview:
This civic arts theater is home to the San Diego Opera, the California Ballet, and the La
Jolla Music Society. The official theater promoter, Broadway/San Diego, brings popular
plays, musical and other theater shows. The entire venue seats 2,967.
SAN GABRIEL MISSION PLAYHOUSE

Overview:
The design of the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse is meant to mimic the Mission San Antonio de
Padua in Monterey. The auditorium, built in 1927, features 1,300 seats, side boxes, an 18-seat
orchestra pit and 19th-century-style Spanish chandeliers.
SANTA MONICA CIVIC AUDITORIUM

Overview:
The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium was first opened in 1958 and has hosted such events as the
Academy Awards. It is often used for exhibits, concerts and sporting events. The auditorium
seats 3,000 people. With its hydraulic floor, the auditorium can be converted into a 27,000 sq. ft.
exhibit space large enough for 149 booths. If needed, the front lawn can be tented for events up
to 250 people.
SDSU OPEN AIR THEATER

Overview:
The SDSU Open Air Theater is fully managed and operated by Associated Students of
the campus. The theater is an outdoor venue with 4,600 seats and modern staging and
sound equipment. Notable performers include Lenny Kravitz, Sade and Robert Plant.
SILENT MOVIE THEATER

Overview:
This 210 seat Art Deco theater opened in 1942 and has been fully restored to its original
glory. Modern additions include a coffee bar and photo gallery on its second floor and a
projection booth that runs digital, 35 mm and 16 mm formats. The patio features Spanish
tiles and a granite bar and can be used for events and receptions.
TERRACE THEATRE

Overview:
The Terrace Theater is located in the Long Beach Convention Center and is home to
various local performing arts groups. The theater features a glass façade with views of
the terrace fountain and ocean views to the east. The theater seats 3,051 and the
adjacent Center Theater seats 825.

Located in Griffith Park, this theater is surrounded by trees and cool breezes. The venue

ACME COMEDY THEATRE

Overview:
Acme Comedy Theater is a sketch comedy and improvisational theater that opened in 1989 by
M.D. Sweeney. In 2004 the club was sold and renovated, making it the most technologically
advanced 99-seat theater in Los Angeles. Notable performers include Adam Carolla, Joel
McHale, Jackson Douglass, Cecily Adams and Lisa Kushell.
BREA IMPROV

Overview:
The Brea Improv opened in 1991 as the second improv to open in Orange County. The club can
accommodate 400 people seated. The entire space can be rented out for events. In the daytime,
meetings can be held with available audiovisual equipment. Some big name performers include
Ellen DeGeneres, Jamie Foxx, Damon Wayans and Jeff Foxworthy.
COMEDY STORE

Overview:
The Comedy Store opened on the Sunset Strip in 1972 and has been one of the best venues for
comedians and audiences ever since. Names like Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and David
Letterman have all performed here in the past. The Comedy Store has three different rooms with
the largest seating 400 people.
GROUNDLINGS THEATER

Overview:
IN 1979 the Groundlings improvisational comedy troupe opened in Los Angeles. The Groundlings
School sees over 1,000 students a year with many moving on to work in television and movies.
Notable alumni include Phil Hartman, Jon Lovitz, Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri and Maya Rudolph. The
intimate club seats just 99.
HOLLYWOOD IMPROV

Overview:
in 1963 Bud Friedman opened the first ever improv in New York. In 1974 he opened the
Hollywood improv and has been hosting up-and-comers ever since. The clubs hosted Jay Leno,
Andy Kaufman and Jerry Seinfeld all before they hit it big. The club offers a full service
restaurant for preshow dining only. The entire club can be reserved for events and holds a total
of 400 people.
IRVINE IMPROV

Overview:
This club opened in 1987 making it the first improv club in Orange County. Its opening act was
none other than Jerry Seinfeld. The club offers a full restaurant for preshow dining and seats and
total of 400. During the day meetings can be held with available audiovisual equipment.
THE FUNHOUSE

Overview:
This intimate theater is home to the San Diego Theater Sports improvisational troupe. The
performances occur four times weekly and are often interactive, incorporating the audience.

THE LAUGH FACTORY

Overview:
Jamie Masada opened The Laugh Factory in 1979 at the height of the comedy club trend.
Notable performers include powerhouses Jay Leno, Robin Williams and Jerry Seinfeld. The main
room has two floors and holds 450 people. For private events there is a room with plasma TVs
and large booth seating. It holds 150 for receptions and 60 for seated events.
