Buffet Line
A buffet line is a sequence of food items and buffet tables which allow guests to skip over items which they do not like. For instance, a buffet line could have a section for salad, soup, meats, vegetables and desserts. In a buffet line guests could begin where they would like but this is totally up to the event planner as it could slow the line altogether.
The buffet line could also refer to the people actually standing in line waiting to obtain food at the buffet tables. The buffet line is usually a sequential thing necessary to maintain order:
- 1st- guests receive napkins
- 2nd- guests receive eating utensils
- 3rd- guests receive plates
- 4th- guests are allowed to serve themselves or be served by the wait staff.
- 5th- guests receive their choice of beverages
People in the buffet line can not advance and must wait their turn until the person at the front of the line progresses followed by the person behind them. Event planners should monitor the length of the buffet line and could even arrange a timeline for each table to receive their food. Buffet styled catering is always less expensive than a sit-down event but it could also turn into a hassle for your guests if it is a large event. Depending on the amount of people present at an event, the event planner and caterer could decide to set up two buffet lines so that everyone isn’t waiting in the same long line that continues to inch along.
