A cocktail is a fun, flirty drink that can be mixed with a variety of different liquors. A cocktail is usually colorful and might have a fruity, sour, sweet or other distinctive flavoring. Cocktails can be made as an individual drink or taken as a shot. A shot is served in a shot glass and is either just as single liquor or liquor mix taken in one gulp. The first choice of liquor can then be mixed with another type of liquor, fruit juice, soda or any other filler. The alcohol itself can even have an added fruity flavoring such green apple flavored vodka or strawberry flavored gin. Cocktails are most known for their interesting names, which are meant to excite curiosity and fun. Cocktails are a bar staple because few people consume straight shots of alcohol, so cocktails are another way to indulge in the consumption of liquor without the unpleasant taste. Cocktails allow for people to sip and mingle making them great drinks to serve at any event. Shots are not for sipping, they are to be taken in one single gulp (if you can stand it) making them horrible drinks for mingling in a crowd. Cocktails are pleasant to drink because they often incorporate flavors that most people already enjoy. The liquor is diluted because of the additional ingredients incorporated into the drink, so people are able to buy more of the single drinks before they become inebriated, thus making the bar more money at an event.
Cocktails tend to make the consumption of alcohol and bar culture in general more fun and creative. People can now enjoy alcoholic drinks and not have to actually taste the liquor. Some examples of cocktails are:
