Charger - Chargers

A charger is the decorative plate liner that separates the dinner plate from the table itself. The charger also adds to the décor because it is colorful and /or decorative. The original use of a charger was to technically protect the table and tablecloth from being scorched by a hot plate. Now many tables have a protective pad that is used when hosting and the plates themselves are not generally served to a guest piping hot so chargers are now used more for decoration than anything else. Chargers do not have to be used at an event but they do add something extra to the table design.

Chargers are slightly larger than a dinner plate in size so they peek out from underneath the place setting to add a bit of color. Chargers are usually a circular shape although they can be bought in other shapes to match the shape of the dinner plate used. Chargers can be rented or bought and come in a huge variety of colors and designs to match the décor of your event. Table decoration is a big part of the event’s décor and chargers certainly add to that special effect.

Chargers peek out from underneath the dinner plate to add a bit of color and sparkle to the china set. They would even look pretty as a faux plate before the guests are served. They often have a bit of sparkle or shine to them and should not be used for eating. Name plates are often placed on top of the charger for sanitary reasons since they are not used for eating.
