Wine Chiller – Champagne Bucket
A wine chiller or Champagne bucket is a metal, glass or plastic bucket filled with ice used to place a wine bottle to keep it cold after it has been opened. The wine chiller is usually placed by the table if it has legs or on the table if it does not and is accompanied by a towel to wipe off the condensation before serving.
The wine chiller is brought to the table by a server either immediately before or after it is opened. A wine chiller is only used for white wine, as you do not chill red wines.
A wine chiller could also be a mini refrigerator shaped like a wine rack which can be installed in a place of business or in a home. This is also called a wine cabinet or “La Cave” (pronounced la cav) which is French for “The Cave”. This type of wine chiller would store and chill more than one bottle of wine before or after it is opened while the bucket wine chiller would only hold one bottle of wine.
The idea for the wine chiller is for it to be an individual chilling option for one table. The wine chiller allows for the server or the guests at the table to refill their glasses as needed.
