Centerpieces

Centerpieces are decorations placed upon a table at an event. They are items of varying height, size, creativity and cost placed in the middle of a banquet or other type of table at an event. Centerpieces are usually made at the discretion of the creator as they are supposed to complement the already established décor of the event. Common items used to create a centerpiece are:

  • Floral arrangements
  • Candles such as tapers, floating or votives
  • Fruit sculptures
  • Ice sculptures
  • Fabrics such as lace
  • Figurines or statues
  • Vegetables
  • Leaves
  • Baby’s Breath
  • Bowls

Centerpieces add beauty and completeness to the table decoration and thus the room. A centerpiece has to fit the theme and color of an event because it is a main eyepiece. For holiday events, centerpieces can be made of red poinsettia leaves and holly.

For weddings, centerpieces could be made up of candles with flowers or any other items one can think of. The important thing to remember about centerpieces is that there isn’t a right or a wrong. Centerpieces are meant to add to the décor and create ambience at each table. Centerpieces can be conversation pieces if they are extremely elaborate or creative.

When a centerpiece is chosen, the same centerpiece is usually then displayed on each table. So, if you have ten tables, then you would need ten centerpieces. Centerpieces can also be used in very causal settings. Some families use centerpieces in their homes on a daily basis, whether it is just a simple floral arrangement or nice candles. A table centerpiece becomes a center eye piece and should reflect the style of the room. At a formal event, however, centerpieces are crucial and without them a venue can appear incomplete.
