Cake Stand
A cake stand is a clear glass container used to store a cake after it has been baked and cooled. The cake stand itself is a flat surface with a stem for elevation and includes a clear glass dome which is placed on top of the cake after it has been placed on the stand. The cake stand is used to:
The cake stand can be placed on top of a counter, table or other sturdy surface and kept there until the cake has been eaten. The cake stand is completely movable so, it can be rotated in order to accommodate any space. The cake stand keeps the cake moist and preserves its freshness by preventing air from causing it to go stale. The dome shaped top of the cake stand allows moisture to accumulate thus keeping the cake fresh. A cake is more likely to become stale if it is sitting out in open air rather than being covered. The cake stand is usually made of a clear durable glass so that guests can easily see what the cake looks like yet it prevents them from touching and/or attempting to sample the cake before the appointed time. Wedding cakes do not typically use cake stands because one, they are too large and two, the cutting of the wedding cake is traditional so guests already know not to touch it. Cake stands are more for small events or events held in one’s home. Cakes can be displayed on a cake stand without the dome cover during serving. The cake stand has a flat surface which makes it perfect for cutting and serving to guests.
