Ambience
Ambience is a word used to describe the mood or feeling created at an event. The preferred ambience is often planned by the event planner because it is often created through the specific selection of décor, lighting and sound options. To name a few adjectives, ambience could be described as being:
An event planner should first consider the reason for the event before they begin to decide how to create the appropriate mood at the event. If the event has a particular theme, that should be strongly considered as the mood would directly relate. A wedding would call for romance while a funeral repass would call for nostalgia. A film wrap party would call for a celebratory mood. Once the mood is decided upon, the event planner can begin to think of colors that correspond with that particular feeling. These associations are usually based upon common belief systems for example; romance usually denotes the use of roses and candlelight. Once the colors and theme of an event have been established, the event planner can begin to plan. The décor that one chooses to create a certain mood is based upon:
Depending on the preferred ambience lighting design can play a major role. Lighting design has many different options in terms of color, style and size. You can choose to light different parts of the room in different colors or create a custom color. The intensity is important as well as bright lighting adds a different feel from dim lighting. Sound design is important as well because it directly affects one’s senses. Intense music and loud sounds can excite your guests while soothing music can relax them. All of these things combine to create ambience. Ambience is simply the feeling you get when you step into an environment and it is usually based upon the mood that the décor, sound, etc emits.
